My main habit is going straight to my desk first thing in the morning and opening the manuscript. I check email because my editor is overseas so the time difference means that I only have a small window to respond before she leaves for the day so I like to be available for that, but otherwise, I don’t go on socials or become too distracted. Within about fifteen minutes, I’m actively writing.
I usually break midday for a bite and some yoga, then my afternoons are less structured. I might write or do some marketing work like blog posts (hi!)
Did you face any challenges while you were writing this story?
I had two. One was that I was writing it in the lead-up to Christmas and I had a ton of family commitments, so I sent it in half-baked. That meant I had a ton of revisions when January rolled around. That was one of the worst New Year’s hangovers I’ve ever had, lol.
The other challenge was the story itself. It revisits my Sauveterre Siblings quartet so I was very tempted to draw in all the characters from those other FOUR books. So it was very challenging to stick with Joaquin and Siobhan and not over-indulge with the other characters.
Tell us about your book...
It does revisit my Sauveterres who were notorious pairs of identical twins. Think Kardashians crossed with the Bobbsey Twins. Siobhan is the sister of Cinnia, who married Henri Sauveterre, the defacto patriarch of the family. So she grew up in that world of glitz, but was also used by people who wanted to get close to them. She’s very wary and, truthfully, punishing herself for a mistake she made while living with them.
Joaquin has a very difficult, dark past. He recently lost his brother and is locked in a power struggle with his father. Learning he is about to become a father stirs very mixed feelings in him, but he’s ultra-protective of Siobhan, fearing his father will go after her if he doesn’t keep her close.
Honestly, it has one of the sweetest endings I’ve ever written. I love how they come together after their black moment and hope you do, too!
