* What is the significance of your book's title?
The title was chosen by Harlequin, but I think it’s clever because it tells you that the baby is not his without saying it clearly. Molly is a surrogate, which complicates her love story with her boss/crush Gio.
* What is the theme of this book?
This is Book One of a duet called Bound by a Surrogate Baby. The theme of the duet is really around friendship and keeping secrets. In that way, I love that Harlequin chose the title The Baby His Secretary
Carries because I love the word ‘secretary.’
* How were these themes brought to life?
Well, Molly has to keep her friend Sasha’s secrets, including the fact that the baby she carries is not her own. In fact, her whole pregnancy is a secret! And, even though she spent many years apart from her friend, they immediately bonded as though they were still teenagers.
Then, Sasha is as protective as Molly as she ever was and keeps *her* secret that she’s in love with her boss ☺
When Harlequin asked if I wanted to write a duet, I said “Sure. I’ve been thinking of something with a surrogate.” I always like to think about things that have two sides if I’m working on a duet, but I didn’t fully realize until I came to write this book that it meant my heroine would have to give up the baby she carries. That’s kind of traumatic!
So I needed this to be something she feels so strongly about that she’ll never have any doubts afterward that it was the right thing to do. She LOVES Sasha and the adopted baby sister that Sasha gave to her as a teen. When Sasha needs a surrogate, Molly steps right up, eager to give her friend the same gift she’d been given.
All goes to plan until she falls in love with her boss. And Gio needs her to pretend to be his fiancée. And kisses her!
The real loss Molly fears here is Gio, but how can she keep a man without revealing how she came to be pregnant?
